Jake Deodato is a songwriter based out of Kingston, Ontario. Having previously focused his energies primarily on pop and rock music, Turntale marks his first endeavour into scoring . Over the years, Jake's various bands have received local radio play and his current band, Team Fence, are in the process of completing their debut record. Aside from his musical pursuits, he has been active in local theatre and thoroughly enjoys writing about himself in the third person.
Vernal Equinox (And the Subsequent Terrors that Ensue) dances back and forth from minor to major modalities relying heavily on the acoustic piano, which guides the listener through the piece. A minimalist approach was used to the arrangement (at the animator's request) and the piano is occasionally accented by acoustic bass, percussive and wind instruments throughout. The music was composed before the animating process had begun and was tailored to suit the animation as it progressed.
Using the wonderful software that is Propellerhead's Reason, the entire piece was created from the comfort (and at times discomfort) of a simple home studio. The piece is performed entirely by MIDI instruments and no actual audio was used in the recording process. This was a creative decision brought about both by the composers faith in the authenticity and organic sound of the samples used in Reason and also out of a desire to see what he could achieve without having to rely on a professional studio (saving lots and lots of money in the process). The final version that will appear in the film is currently being mastered at Longshot Studios with Matt Baetz.
